Seed Production

Seed Reseach of Oregon is located in the heart of the Willamette Valley of Oregon. A century ago the legendary Oregon Trail ended in this fertile valley. Many of Oregon’s grass seed growing families are descendants and pioneers to the Oregon Territory. Some families date back to the mid-1800’s when Oregon became a state. In the 1930’s, grass seed farming replaced other activities on land then used for grazing cattle and sheep. There are now over 1,500 grass seed producing farms in Oregon.

Oregon is considered the "Grass Seed Capital" of the world. Over half of the world’s cool season grasses are produced in the Willamette Valley. Located on the 45th parallel, Oregon experiences distinct seasons with mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers ideal for producing the best grass seed available. Oregon will continue to be the world leader in superior quality grass seed production.

At Seed Reseach of Oregon we contract with seed growers to produce thousands of acres of many different varieties and species of grasses. Our production department, headed by Doug King, works closely with seed growers, certification personnel from Oregon State University and various fertilizer and weed control specialists to ensure the highest quality standards. Seed Reseach of Oregon varieties are cleaned and conditioned at selected cleaning plants to meet rigid minimum quality standards before they can be marketed.
